Stephanie Welch has accepted the position as president of
the Great Schools Partnership, after being unanimously selected by the
organization’s board of directors. Welch has been a vital part of GSP’s
leadership team since 2013, serving as vice president of operations and
interim president.

“Stephanie’s experience working in health and education, her deep concern
for children, and demonstrated leadership as GSP’s VP of operations and
interim president, make her the ideal person to lead GSP during this critical
time as we partner with Knox County Schools in achieving excellence for every
child,” said Anthony Wise, president of Pellissippi State Community College
and chairman of GSP’s board of director.

Welch began her career in public health. She has worked at the East Tennessee
Regional Health Office and at the Knox County Health Department and has
chaired boards ranging from Knoxville’s Food Policy Council to the National
Association of County and City Health Officials MAPP Workgroup. She is a
major in the U.S. Army Reserve and is the executive officer for a Medical
Support Unit in Chattanooga. In addition, she represents District 1 on
Knoxville’s City Council.

The Great Schools Partnership serves as a catalyst, think tank, incubator,
start-up funder and operational partner for Knox County Schools. GSP and KCS
partner on 13 community schools, the Parents-as-Teachers
Birth-to-Kindergarten program, Leaders for Readers, TeacherPreneur grants,
CodeTN and other initiatives that help students and teachers. Together, GSP
and KCS are working to create the best school system in the South. To learn
