A $50,000 grant from the Scripps Howard Foundation will allow journalism and electronic media students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to learn from leading Web journalism professionals during this academic year.

"Collaboration between university journalism and electronic media programs and the media industry is essential in the fast - changing media world," said College of Communication and Information Dean, Mike Wirth. "We are very grateful to the Scripps Howard Foundation for the opportunity to bring our vision of educating the next generation of media professionals to fruition."

Lay's Market is celebrating 100 years in downtown Knoxville this month. The anniversary will be marked with a ceremony at 11 AM, September 27 in front of the market at 622 East Jackson Avenue. Mayor Bill Haslam will headline the celebration and the public is invited to attend. Continually owned and operated by the Lay family, the market has been a fixture in downtown Knoxville for the last 100 years. T.L. Lay opened his meat market on South Central Street in Knoxville in 1907.

The Knoxville Chamber held its Annual Stakeholders' Report at the historic Tennessee Theater. Members had a chance to mingle over a continental breakfast and enjoy the beautiful ambiance of the theater before Mike Hamilton, Board Chair, addressed the crowd and outlined the Chamber's accomplishments in the 2006-2007 fiscal year.
